‘St Kilda Speaks’ – It tells you how to Be Alive

Spirit of St Kilda

Paul Kelly – St Kilda- all that land and all that water for one sweet promenade…
I have an absolute love affair with Sydney,
But Melbourne is home.

The painting on the side of the Espy looked down on me as I began taking photographs and I thanked one of my music idols Paul Kelly for this hotspot of festive fun.

The song was playing in my mind as I began to wander.

“From St Kilda to Kings Cross is thirteen hours on a bus I pressed my face against the glass and watched the white lines rushing past. And all around me felt like all inside me. And my body left me, and my soul went running.
Have you ever seen Kings Cross when the rain is falling soft?
I came in on the evening bus, from Oxford Street I cut across. And if the rain don't fall too hard, everything shines just like a postcard. Everything goes on just the same.
Fair-weather friends are the hungriest friends.
I keep my mouth well shut; I cross their open hands.
I want to see the sun go down from St Kilda Esplanade. Where the beach needs reconstruction,
where the palm trees have it hard.
I'd give you all of Sydney Harbour (all that land, all that water)
For that one sweet promenade…”

And I found sweet people playing dress-ups – being their true selves.

The human connection is essential to me.
When I am taking a photograph.

I do not want your money
I do not want your functional practicality
I want you to wonder and find a connection
Please give me your crazy
Please give me your quirky
Find me at the edges
We are finding the laugher
The straight and narrow – is not how I find my way
It is in the unusual, winding curves – where I find my way home
Unusual is my beautiful.

Glorious for me is when I am full of wonder.

The stock standard is a bore.
If you do it just like everyone else.
I like it when it feels like summer and when somethings so special your hair standing on end.

You know you are alive.

I like -
Human fireflies
They put on a show-
They burn bright
They do funny things- And then it is over.

The urge to preserve- is the basis of art and I adore capturing these brief warm interludes.

My photography allows me to find a spark. I enjoy photography
Everyday people- coming out of the shell.

St Kilda seemed like it was speaking?
What do we hear?
The beat of the drum,
The sound of a heartbeat
A Heart song

I love the word Idiosyncrasy – to describe
the sort of photography subjects I adore.

The Greek Origin of the word reveals a lot.
